went ice-skating with [livejournal.com profile] landvaettir at the Natural History Museum friday evening. i hadn't been ice-skating in something like a decade, but ended up propelling myself tolerably well. i didn't even fall over once. except that time when a crazy french man rammed me, and then immediately apologised and offered me his arse.

attended [livejournal.com profile] nniaa's birthday drinks last night: good vodka, good company, what more does one need? :)

i can't say i've ever asked the question "who would win in a fight between a cyberwoman and a pterodactyl", but i feel slightly better for knowing.

[livejournal.com profile] compilerbitch and [livejournal.com profile] doseybat's party good. tired. head hurts. the usual. work tomorrow.

still somewhat green.

this is all.

back from b-movie which was rather entertaining. [livejournal.com profile] landvaettir came round earlier and helped me be green (especially doing my back and neck) : also lent me hair (green falls) and books. and i got in free, woo! † not really very many aliens : myself (orion slave woman), a borg and an andorian. once in was good fun. got to use the line "no? really! what? it happened again? i really must change my soap". danced quite a lot in the last half hour, sporadically before then.

despite being green i seem to have avoided having my photograph taken: arriving after [livejournal.com profile] reddragdiva left didn't help in this regard. if there are photos that i'm unaware of they will probably pop up on [livejournal.com profile] bmovie at some point.

got some bad abuse on the way home which rather upset me. but got some compliments later when got closer from a similar group of people. meh, i dunno. drunken idiots will pick on something and being green is a good way to be conspicous i suppose. really need to get this shit sorted out in my head.

should go to sleep now. i expect tomorrow it is my bedclothes that will be green. hurrah.

† the careful observer might note that i spent more on being green than being green saved me. hence the subject, possibly.

hmm, i wonder if i have enough green. may get more at lunchtime to be on safe side.

odd weekend, overall. there's a better word for it than that, but nevermind. barely ate anything saturday and had few people over for flatcooling : popped into intelekt later, very quiet indeed. was too tired to really stay.

we need to find another housemate, as the american chap who lives in the room downstairs is going back to america. who wants to live in a nice house in seven sisters?

been working hard last few days, interspersed with discovering the british library's collection of obscure government papers and acts and SIs and stuff.

oh, and i have the gospel of the flying spaghetti monster now!

[livejournal.com profile] landvaettir came round this evening and we drank nearly all of a bottle of vodka and watched maid marian and then eventually, after 3 buses and a taxi, ended up at b-movie, which was teh fun. decided fairy wings really need a bigger venue. i liked dancing to Nellie the Elephant, it reminds me of Southampton.

oh and yesterday we went to the british museum and tried to find the secret annex that the league of extraordinary gentlemen use. my theory is that it is in what appears to be a missing floor. oh, and we looked at some old stuff as well. it's kind of humbling looking at writing that's 5,000 years old... and rather cool to realise that we actually understand what it means. but then we had cocktails which is the important part. and then i went home and it is at this point i saw a mouse.

i am supposedly going to be in leicester tomorrow for some kind of flatcooling party, before then going to intelekt. we'll see when i get up...

monomeet last weekend was generally fun, although i got far far too drunk on the friday night. oh, and i bought some very big blue fairy wings in camden. very busy this week so far: also tired.

i went to leicester yesterday. being the clever abi i was i bought a return ticket. oops. i returned by car, of course, with lots of dvds and books and also a television, which is now in the front room. it feels a bit less like i'm an intruder now i have stuff in that room.

after this i explored. this consisted of going down the A10 and spending time in a couple of pubs in Stoke Newington whilst reading graphic novels. in the first one (the Rochester Castle, a weatherspoons), I got talking to a couple of random people, including someone who was using long words and then correcting himself and using short ones instead. which is a bit interesting. The second pub (the Coach and Horses) seemed very nice and had good music.

i shall detail graphic novels i have read lately:

graphic novels i have read lately )

what should i be keeping my eyes peeled out for here? There's a whole bunch of Alan Moore related stuff out soon, i know (Black Dossier, Albion, Lost Girls)...

two weeks now! and what a two weeks. i can report: folks at work seem lovely. office is nicely airconditioned, and a few times we've been out to Lincoln's Inn Fields to have sandwiches which is good :) the fields are a bit random, in the middle of central london to have a semi big park.

seem to have accidentally bought a lot of movies from the hmv and virgin sales. ho hum. still not seen superman yet!

exploration )
there was a water leak on seven sisters road. i saw it yesterday morning: someone was working on it yesterday evening, and then this morning the entire junction and road had been sealed off near the leak "POLICE INNER CORDON". not sure if this is related.

this evening i went to see [livejournal.com profile] landvaettir. the highlight of the conversation has to be :

[livejournal.com profile] abigailb: oh, and i saw [livejournal.com profile] glamgothruthy at b-movie.
[livejournal.com profile] landvaettir: ah! and how is she?

tomorrow i shall be going to leicester, and i will be going to psychocandy in the evening. sunday i will be returning to london with More Stuff.

back from [livejournal.com profile] bmovie relatively early due to my head breaking. good night until then : caught cab back with [livejournal.com profile] reddragdiva and [livejournal.com profile] arkady. i introduced two abis ([livejournal.com profile] absinthecity and [livejournal.com profile] eyeliner297 to each other. we just need a couple more and we can have a poker night or a five-aside team or something. also spotted were: [livejournal.com profile] squirmelia, [livejournal.com profile] secretlondon, [livejournal.com profile] fluffymormegil, [livejournal.com profile] vampwillow, [livejournal.com profile] glamgothruthy and for that matter probably half of livejournal so i should just give up here in case i forget someone. [livejournal.com profile] poggs briefly popped in. someone showed me some magic tricks (including a VERY impressive sleight of hand), but i'm not sure who that was.

i'd spent pretty much all the night being worried my hair was going to fall out : now i'm sitting on my bed painfully trying to take it off. hurrah for irony!

1 whole weeK! i have even put a zone 1-3 month-long travelcard on my oyster! and done a mail redirection. must finish unpacking what i have brought before i move more stuff here next weekend.

[livejournal.com profile] bmovie this evening. not sure what to wear... hmm.

does anyone know if there is a refugee camp for users of #uk_goffs anywhere?

back from bath. i can report [livejournal.com profile] zootalures and [livejournal.com profile] 561 were succesfully married, and also that bath is still excessively hilly. i found the entire weekend good fun. added a few people who i remember the ljnames of. very tired now. birthday tomorrow.
abigailbrady: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] darkscape_club was very good last weekend. was worried about head but managed to stay out quite late. had hell to pay on the Sunday though. Cafe Scientifique on Tuesday was about ancient Egyptian astronomy and was really interesting. To top off yesterday's excitement, when I woke up and turned my computer on, I discovered that the hard disk had died. Put off buying a replacement until this afternoon and I'd had the phone call. In other news, I have been developing a cold. I'll try not to give it to anyone at [livejournal.com profile] zootalures amd [livejournal.com profile] 561's wedding on Saturday. (I'm very glad I took the precaution of phoning the hotel earlier this week confirming my booking: they hadn't got it on record. But do now. And I even have an email to prove it.)

Oh, and it's my birthday on Monday. I shall be 27.

Spent most of last night at Nowhere (which was marginally cooler than psychocandy downstairs, as there was a proper draft)

Rather than summarising my activities: I will instead ask the question
[Poll #746183]

Also: for public record I meant to fall down whilst I was dancing to No-One Knows by QOTSA. Honest.

So. On Thursday I paid a visit to [livejournal.com profile] fuzzygoth, who is living all of about 200m from me, armed with a cup of sugar (and beer). nice to see people actually coming to leicester, although we still have a bit of a headcount deficit. ;)

Then Friday, visited [livejournal.com profile] landvaettir and in evening attended [livejournal.com profile] bmovie. all in all, very entertaining. was a bit worried that my headache would be too bad, but a brief nap sorted that out. nice to meet a bunch people from IRC for the first time. now at parents, preparing to watch doctor who and then go and attend [livejournal.com profile] psychocandyclub. shall be very tired sunday, if still alive.
abigailbrady: (Default)
fun evening in pub with lots of goffics. hello [livejournal.com profile] fuzzygoth person

seem to be in comic book movie mode for the moment. watched Return to the Batcave this afternoon, which is a tv movie made in 2003 which features Adam West and Burt Ward playing themselves but in a kind of distorted reality. they pursue the thieves of the Batmobile. Very very weird indeed. Possibly one to avoid when on drugs.

lunch and shopping this afternoon with [livejournal.com profile] uv_pink_fluff, [livejournal.com profile] reclamation and kelly. rather nice just chatting with people and stuff.

had flat inspection this evening then, at 5pm. no problem at all: i think she was just checking i hadn't knocked any walls through and the like. ;)

just chilling out now. i did a bit of work on the mud for the first time in ages earlier this evening. we're getting somewhat annoyed by someone who does nothing but keeps connecting and disconnecting and spamming our collective screens with messages. if we ban them, we still get messages about them connecting. so i'll be implementing another step: EXTREME BANNINATION! :)
abigailbrady: (Default)
party went reasonably well. scones seem to go down well. had some left over so took them down to retribution afterwards and gave them to people. we were all entertained by doctor who, and then singing along the eurovision songs to the wrong tunes (see below). went then to darkscape, which was also very entertaining but my headache kicked in. :( oh well.

we are watching the danish entry to eurovision. we are, however, not actually listening to it. we are instead listening to Head Like A Hole by Nine Inch Nails. we have the lyrics up on red button. we are singing along to it to the tune of NIN. whee!

Worship me as a God, pitiful fools! (that last bit was someone else, i.e. [livejournal.com profile] landvaettir)

update: and now the Russian entry to Hurt. this rules.

now: Greek entry to We're In It Together Now

we actually listened to Lordi. Obviously.

and now: Ukraine to Mein Teil by Rammstein (we got the lyrics 'my part' on the screen to line up with 'Mein Teil' with the song without trying too hard).

the Irish entry, Every Song is a Cry for Love, is obviously Every Day Is Exactly the Same by NIN
