Mixed night.

Went to meet [livejournal.com profile] lady_miamew at Jacey's ahead of Retribution. Then I got to one of these random branching points in life. I chose to go left into the left-hand bar to look for her, and circled round to the back, into the right-hand bar, walked past the pool table, and got some horrific abuse shouted at me by some chav scumbags who were playing pool. Utterly shaken, I found Abi and sit down and nearly started crying.

Went to Retribution reasonably soon after that. Lots of people out tonight, particularly good to see Emma who I'd not seen in ages... Had fun dancing in my new boots, although my feet now hurt. (they are barely big enough. hopefully they are broken in now, although it feels like it's my feet that have been broken in). At Retribution, I got a random compliment from some guy - he came up to me, said something like that I was looking the best that he'd seen me looking, and then vanished. It is strange how people's reactions to me vary.

Rather tired now, and my feet hurt. I think next week I'll be wearing my nice oversize flat work boots.

Back from [livejournal.com profile] psychocandyclub which was good, as usual!

I didn't take many photos but my namesake ([livejournal.com profile] lady_miamew) did, we will see how they come out in the morning when I can be bothered. (and don't worry, Abi this time you'll get a veto)

Something vaguely disturbing happened which was me being chatted up by a random guy. He explained how he was deaf in one ear due to being a bomb disposal expert in the army, and showed me his army card. I could tell he was chatting me up because he felt the need to say that he wasn't.

[livejournal.com profile] landvaettir said I should poke his eyes out, or possibly get [livejournal.com profile] riak to do it, but this seemed unlikely (and anyway, he might poke mine back, what with his army training). He later moved onto other Abi, and to Mark. Abi thought he was chatting her up, too. So we pretended to be lesbians (ok, so I didn't have to pretend very hard). It occured to me later that I could have gotten rid of him very easily, but that would have been cheating!

But apart from the random squaddie, was a good night. My ears hurt and are ringing - Neal said it really was louder this time.

I am thinking about seeing The Magic Roundabout tomorrow at the cinema. Who wants to come? Showings are 12.30pm, 2.30pm, 4.30pm, 6.45pm.

Intelekt Good (tm).

Hi to the newly added people.

I can't be bothered to caption all these at the moment (and anyway I don't know who everyone is).

Well, that was a nicely insane night.

I first went to see the Dears at the Charlotte. Said hi to [livejournal.com profile] fox_in_snow (hope I didn't scare you too much!) I really liked the the first support band, Pure Reason Revolution. And so apparently did other people, because their CD had sold out not even halfway through their set. Didn't enjoy Ambulance Ltd so much (this seems to becoming a habit of mine, disliking the middle band). And then the Dears, who were excellent.

They finished about 23.35, so I then ran (well, walked briskly) to the Fan Club for the last Spellbound. This was rather odd. So many people there, such a good atmosphere (apart from the random townies). It was a good send-off. The last song played was by the Sisters, I think, and before then was Siouxsie and the Banshees.

I took lots of photos at both places. I think I got the lens sorted out, but we'll see. I took a scary number of photos, and got some people to take photos of me too - hopefully something usable as a usericon because I am getting bored with this one. Despite my decision to come home at 1am, I didn't, and am glad of it. I am now quite awake and not very drunk. I shouldn't be too bad this morning, I hope.

Update: It is 9.33 and I am dead.

Generally a good party, and then a good night out. Alarmingly I wasn't the last to bed, I think alexa and zub went at 9am, and other people may not have gone to bed at all. Thanks to everyone for coming, especially on such short notice (especially [livejournal.com profile] keturner who I harassed on IRC to come yesterday!), and sorry for chucking you out - my parents are kind of exhausted now and needed their house back.

I took loads of photos at the club which I will sort out in a bit. I found a straw that glows in the UV and then waved it around a lot, so does that make me a cybergoff? Four people told [livejournal.com profile] alexa_robinson she looked like Trinity from the Matrix (although one said Lara Craft), which I think is a quorum.

Full list of attendees

[livejournal.com profile] keturner

[livejournal.com profile] x_mass
[livejournal.com profile] zub (my brother)

Non-LJ people were Sam (Bingo) and Ruan (Serriadh) from Cryosphere. A special mention must go to Bingo who managed to drive from Gloucester to Leicester via Stoke! However, the award for stupidity goes to Serriadh, for his self-inflicted injury acquired whilst going downstairs and pretending to be a monkey.

Tomorrow I have to get up at the time I actually went to bed at today. Yay.

Back from firefly/new potatoes. Came home in the early due to the 4 hours of sleep last night.

This time I didn't accidentally get pitchers of cocktails at firefly :( so a bit of a letdown. I let in [livejournal.com profile] landvaettir and [livejournal.com profile] riak on the exact idea for my screenplay and they seemed to like it, although Landvaettir seemed to think it would be improved by the addition of pirate ninja cowboys. So now I just need to find someone to co-write it for me! *cackle* world domination awaits!

We walked into new potatoes during the middle of a very odd band and I can kind of see why not everyone stuck around. I decided to stick it out though and the night itself was quite cool. Seeing nigel from work (does he have a DJ-name?) DJing very odd considering I had no idea about his little hobby until very recently. ;) I have warned him everyone will be told. Had a good catch-up with my namesake [livejournal.com profile] lady_miamew : sorry I didn't stick around longer but I was about to fall asleep.

Gonna have a good long lie-in tomorrow. I dunno if I'll be going to retribution. If anyone else is planning to I might as well go, but I think people might be otherwise engaged?

It is 7.17

I am not just hungover, I think I am still probably drunk. But at least I'm awake.

Just got back from Oxford. Good party - saw lots of people I haven't seen in far too long, particularly [livejournal.com profile] squirmelia. The theme was "Animals (wild and domestic)" and though I wasn't wearing a costume I was wearing a t-shirt with rabbits on (Curiously, I didn't realise this until someone pointed it out!)

Got quite tired out by it though.

Yay! Its back up.

So, yesterday (Friday): Intelekt, which I was surprised to find myself really liking (not really knowing much about that sort of music). It was kind of amusing seeing the people from downstairs come upstairs and decide they didn't like it, then go back downstairs to the cheesy gay music.

Today (Saturday): The best thing ever happened today! I ordered a glass of Long Island Iced Tea at Firefly, and they accidentally brought me a jug. And let me keep it. But only paying for the glass!!! How much better can it get? Naturally, I had to drink it all. So I am, very drunk - multiple punctuation marks level of drunk, in fact. Then to Merciless, where I danced for the first time since November. Woo.

Go back to work Monday. Apparently they've moved all the desks round again, so I guess the first order of business will be finding out where I sit now. I should be fine as long as I can actually get up early enough.

Review of Sunday -

Cocktails: good, mostly

Film: good. But I still think it was all Mexican TV!

I can't believe how much better I am that I was before. Looking forward to work on Monday.

Looking ahead I seem to be rather busy... (well, compared to the last 6 weeks)

  • 2005-01-12 (Wed): Charli from the MUD visiting. We are planning to crash-write a mission, just like in the good olde days.
  • 2005-01-14 (Fri): I have been told to go to Intelekt. Dare I disobey?
  • 2005-01-15 (Sat): Day: Ruth from TerraFirmA is visiting. Evening: Merciless Retribution.
  • 2005-01-17 (Mon): Starting back at work.
  • 2005-01-22 (Sat): Emily (loony)'s birthday party, in Oxon
  • 2005-02-12 (Sat): [livejournal.com profile] ickle_yuki visiting again for [livejournal.com profile] psychocandyclub?
  • 2005-03-05 (Sat): [livejournal.com profile] squirmelia's Quarter of a Century Party, in Soton.
abigailbrady: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] psychocandyclub good. Didn't get too drunk or overexert myself. Rather surprised to see someone from work there.

A thoroughly good and alcohol-sodden weekend. Friday was Conspiracy/Killing Miranda, and then Saturday my first visit to the [livejournal.com profile] psychocandyclub. Added a bunch of people to my flist as a result. Hi. :)

I really needed that week off. And I also really need this week off! Too bad. Oxford visit good, if only for being introduced to Dark Angel. :) Damn, more DVDs to buy (if I ever finish watching, um, Angel). Bath visit also good - random beers at the beer festival. Saturday was spent visiting Brean Down (I did manage to climb to the top bit, and far enough along to be able to see Steep Holm, but it quite exhausted me. At least I am getting a bit of exercise these days. Managed to lose nearly a stone since my birthday, through the revolutionary Not Snacking And Walking To Town Instead Of Using The Bus diet.) Saturday night was Entropy, which was quite fun, at least until my headache decided to ruin matters.

In other news, I have new glasses. They are quite a departure in style from my old ones, but I seem to be able to get away with them, so blah.

Is it me or has the posting interface changed?

i feel like absolutely shit now.

I have been unwell the last few hours rather than being able to sleep. I freel incredibyly dry now and am drinking lots and lots of water.

I didn't drink much last night. I had a double vodka and coke, and then part of another vodka and coke, and then stopped. After this I switched to soft drinks and water. I guess I may have left one of these unattended at one point. There was one paticular incident where I returned to a drink and not soon afterwards a creepy guy came and sat excessively close to me.

hmm.

alternatively, this could just becaused by going out two nights in a row. I think that's a more preferabl thing to believe. I haven't got any blackouts - I never do.

[what I didn't mention in this post was that it also fucked with the way I was perceiving time, and made me super-huggy.]

I think it must have been idiots night out today.

I had - one guy creep me out on the bus by sitting next to me when in fact I was the only person on the rather large bus.

Several people try to talk to me on my way to the club.

I thought once I'd be in there, I'd be safe - but no. I get two of them in the same night.

Then, after I leave, and am searching for a taxi, I get the odd comment and in particular someone who follows me.

Now, I'm well past the point where I take this as a compliment (which I guess is progress in itself). I find it fucking scary; perhaps more so because I have absolutely no idea how to deal with it other than running away.

Do t-shirts with 'GO AWAY I AM A LESBIAN' written on them actually work?
abigailbrady: (Default)
Bah. It appears livejournal is evil and ate my last edit.

Pride was good, especially meeting Owen and Alexa again. It was a bit on the small side - it seemed smaller than last year even, but that may have just been due to a different configuration.

It was cool to see BSL signing of the acts. Alexa remarked she wished she knew it, in order that she could know what on earth the bands were singing. Additionally, we discovered that apparently the BSL for 'pretending to be a bunny rabit' involves the use of two index fingers pointing upwards held near the head.

About a year after I came back from Uni, i met a bunch of first years at the local DMU campus. They have now finished their finals! This, combined with me being 25 on Saturday, is surely too much.

  • Did so. It was good, perhaps almost as good as the Dungeon (and certainly better than Nexus)
  • Been hacking on gote. I have reached my 'bare mininum' criteria now. I have a few more mad days of hacking left, then I really need to write the report!
  • The Devanagari renderer is now in CVS. I need to do some work on it, but that can wait.
  • Argh! Why I am I wasting so much of my time?
  • My father is in India, being a textile consultant. We gather he's ill atm, nothing really worrying, but's so frustrating, being thousands of kilometres from him and not being able to do anything...
  • I read too much usenet. Perhaps I should remove the newsreader from my system.
  • Latin has no computer terminology. This needs to be rectified.

Maybe I would accomplish more if I stopped drinking so much tea :

  • Progess on gote. Should be at an 'acceptable to submit'. state by the end of the work. But of course, there is the project.
  • Playing with Devanagari rendering for pango. Have a design for the shaper that ought to work, am experimenting with it. The big problem, of course, will be proofreading it's output, due to all the conjuncts and ligatures. :(
  • At home (Leicester, United Kingdom) for the 'Easter break'. Have no friends here really. Rather bored. Thinking about going out Friday to Oxygen, a club that I hear might be good.
  • Thinking about modifying the house alarm system so it doesn't bleep so loudly when you turn it on. (it's currently rather loud, and wakes people up. [ which is good thing if it detected evil people enter the house, but not a good thing if you just turned it on.) But nevermind
  • Licensing laws for England and Wales are going to be fixed! Yay!
  • Somone should write a compiler for heraldry/vexicology. I want to be able to say 'red, green, yellow horizonal tricolor', and get the right flag. Same with coats of arms, and so on. This would be neat to embed in freeciv, so as to avoid shipping around hundreds of little flags graphics. :)
  • Should really start looking for a job.
