what's a japanese ghost costume look like?

as far as shoes, about about traditional getas?

[identity profile] firinel.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
http://www.karankoron.com/geta_high_heel.html

something like those would be lovely.

you will note that japanese ghosts have no feet! hence they do not have footwear! should i chop my legs off?

[identity profile] firinel.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
*laughs* that's a bit extreme. besides, have you been practicing your floating lately? (I think not ;)

Since Leicester has such a high asian population I'm sure you could find something appropiate. Maybe something like the getas that I linked to in white? The kimino should be long enough your feet can't be seen much anyways.

remember asian in the uk means "south asian". there is no east asian district in leicester, to my knowledge.

oo, ah, damn. when do you need them for? I could get something in Philly and post it to you if there's enough time.

[identity profile] abigailb.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
not worth bothering. i'll go with some slippers or sandals that i already have, or something.

japanese ghost costume!?! that sounds fantastic (whatever it is)

[identity profile] haloj.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well to be authentic you should wear zori on your feet as they are the formal footwere that goes with a kimono and obi.

[identity profile] haloj.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
and I double checked to see if I spelt wear correctly and I missed it. DOH

[identity profile] abigailb.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
I think I might go as a slightly westernised japanese ghost. :)

[identity profile] zootalures.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well to be completely authentic she shoould have been binding her feet since bearth...

[identity profile] arkady.livejournal.com 2005-02-24 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Footbinding was Chinese, not Japanese.

[identity profile] absinthecity.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm? Is this a cosplay thing by any chance??

[identity profile] abigailb.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
no - tis a party.

i shall explain

the theme of the party is things starting with Y.

i had originally suggested "ghosts" as the theme

Japanese ghosts are called Yurei

so I can go as a japanese ghost, and then fulfil both criteria!

sad, no?

Miow!

A Ghosts party.. what a cool idea. Lots of people dressed in sheets. You wouldn't even need to worry about getting home as you'd have your bed with you. Bonus!

[identity profile] zootalures.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going as yesterday's man.

[identity profile] zootalures.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I could go as the ghost of yesterday's man though

[identity profile] abigailb.livejournal.com 2005-02-22 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
yay!

[identity profile] absinthecity.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
No, that rocks. I hope you're going to post a pic of you wearing the costume...;)

[identity profile] abigailb.livejournal.com 2005-02-23 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
it depends how terrible i look!
