After years of trying to reason with various stereotyped responses I eventually realised I was wasting my time and gave up. So when I encounter views like "I can't see how we descended from monkeys...", etc., what I really want to say in response is "Well, that's because you're not very bright dear." But I don't mostly for two reasons: I'm not that nasty and I don't want to get punched.

To be fair though, Dawkin's style modern evolutionary theory is not easily understood even by many people with above average intelligence.
